Best practices

As we continue to build and expand the Tennis – for the health of it! initiative, we would love to hear from all of you about the techniques and strategies you are utilizing to spread the word and successfully integrate this initiative into your programs, facilities and communities.

Below are just a few examples of what some ambassadors have already done in their communities.

USPTA Master Professional Gary Trost has has posted Tennis – for the health of it! posters thoughout his club and increased awareness through more Cardio Tennis programming and through word of mouth.

He has invited the mayor of Oklahoma City, Mick Cornett (an advocate for Tennis – for the health of it!, who lost weight playing tennis), to all of the Tennis Across America events.

 


USPTA Professional David Hendricks has written a speech on Tennis – for the health of it! to give to service clubs and others. The speech is followed with a handout of the 34 reasons to play Tennis – for the health of it! and an offer for a free lesson.

Chris Chopra's facility’s monthly newsletter includes a write-up on Tennis – for the health of it! There is a bulletin board in the club’s lobby detailing 34 reasons to play tennis. His club also promotes the health benefits of tennis in the Cardio Tennis, adult and junior programs.

 

 


Brett Stephenson, USPTA, gave a Tennis – for the health of it! speech to the Health Physicians Medical Group through his company Executive Wellness Services and has been promoting the health benefits of tennis regularly through his company.
 



Britt Feldhausen

 

Britt Feldhausen created a tennis prescription certificate for doctors to give to their patients for a free half-hour tennis lesson. He is currently using it with his own family doctor and her colleagues.

 

 
 


Jeff Hawes, USPTA, includes Tennis – for the health of it! information and messaging in the club newsletter and a flier on the initiative has been displayed in the pro shop.



Bruce Gullikson

 

Bruce Gullikson's facility, Life Time Fitness, is starting a new Web site. It will have links to tennis articles and Tennis – for the health of it! will be the very first article featured.

Also Tennis – for the health of it! and the 34 reasons to play tennis received mention by the company’s national director of tennis at the annual Women’s League luncheon.
